Course Title: Electrical Print Reading
Location: San Joaquin Field Division
Sponsor: O&M Training Center
Participants: H.E.P. Electricians, Mechanics, Operators & Utility Craftsworkers
Class Limits: Minimum 8, Maximum 12

Course Information: This is a 20-hour course on reading and understanding electrical drawings. This class is designed for the student who has had some experience reading electrical drawings, but has had difficulty understanding how the circuit (drawing) works. The student will gain knowledge in the proper methods of reading and understanding electrical drawings.
Class Prerequisites: 1.  Student should have a basic understanding of electricity and electrical drawings prior to attending class.
2.  Student should review basic DWR electrical symbols and device numbers found on DWR electrical drawings.

    • types of prints
    • symbols and abbreviations
    • device numbers
    • title block information
  • Reading simple schematics
    • connecting symbols (variations)
    • current flow
    • relays and contacts
    • proper approach to reading
    • troubleshooting simple department schematics
  • Reading complex schematics
    • identifying circuit components.
    • understanding the circuit.
    • locating and identifying problems.
    • using SIR’s locate problem (findings) and develop solutions (recommendations)
